Specialty	Description

Athletic Training	An athletic trainer is a certified, health care professional who practices in the field of medical athletic training. Athletic trainers specialize in the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and conditions that affect athletes. Athletic trainers can often help prevent injuries by advising patients on specific exercise as well as the proper use of equipment and applying protective or injury-preventive devices such as tape, bandages, and braces.
Audiology	An audiologist is a hearing health care professional who identifies and assesses individuals with hearing and/or balance concerns, problems or disorders. Rehabilitation of hearing loss can be administered by an audiologist through fitting of hearing aids and/or assistive listening devices.
Bariatric Surgery	Bariatric surgery, also known as weight loss surgery, is a type of procedure performed on people who are dangerously overweight, for the purpose of losing weight. This weight loss is usually achieved by reducing the size of the stomach banding around the stomach or by removing a portion of the stomach.
Bariatrics	Bariatrics is the branch of medicine that deals with the causes, prevention, and treatment of obesity. The field encompasses dieting, exercise and behavioral therapy approaches to weight loss; as well as prescription medications and surgery.
Behavioral Health(Alcohol/Drug)	Health care services provided for the prevention or treatment of drug and alcohol abuse disorders.
Behavioral Health(Mental Health)	Health care services provided for the prevention or treatment of mental health or substance abuse disorders.
Cardiology	A cardiologist is a physician who specializes in diagnosing and treating heart disease, as well as heart attacks. Cardiologists usually focus or specialize in an area of care. For example, a pediatric cardiologist specializes in children's heart problems, especially heart defects present at birth. A cardiologist who specializes in caring for adults may focus on preventing and treating heart disease and heart attacks.
Chiropractic	Chiropractors specialize in treating back and neck pain. Chiropractors use a variety of treatments such as spinal adjustments. Since they are not medical doctors, they are not able to prescribe medication. When appropriate, a chiropractor may refer a patient to an M.D.
Counseling Services	Counseling services are positive activities that help the healing process of personal, family, situational or occupational problems in order to bring out a positive resolution of a problem. Services are usually provided by qualified social workers, psychologists, guidance counselors or other qualified personnel.
Dermatology	A dermatologist is a physician who specializes in skin care. This doctor receives extensive training in treating skin problems and keeping skin, hair, and nails healthy, and healthy-looking, throughout your lifetime.
DME	DME stands for Durable Medical Equipment. This medical equipment is either rented or owned and placed in the patient's home to help with treatment or rehabilitation. DME can include assistive devices such as crutches, walkers, wheelchairs, feeding pumps, and many more items to help with the needs of the patient.
Electrophysiology	An EP physician is a cardiologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of electrical problems in the heart that can cause an irregular heartbeat. Patients are seen by an electrophysiologist to determine, among other things, whether they are at risk for sudden cardiac arrest. EP physicians play a major role in diagnosing and treating patients with atrial fibrillation and other abnormal heart rhythm maladies, including ventricular fibrillation which can lead to heart attack and death.
Emergency Medicine	Emergency medicine is the evaluation and treatment of unexpected illnesses and injuries. Physicians in this specialty are trained to immediately evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with injuries and illnesses in the hospital emergency room.
Endocrinology	An endocrinologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the internal glands associated with diabetes, hormones, metabolism, development and puberty.
Family Medicine	Family medicine provides continuing and comprehensive health care for individuals and families. A family physician is trained to deliver a range of acute care, chronic, and preventive medical care services. In addition to diagnosing and treating illness, they also provide routine check-ups, immunizations, and screening tests.
Gastroenterology	Gastroenterologists are physicians specializing in the digestive system and the specific diseases of the stomach, intestine, liver and pancreas.
Health Information	Health information is any information created or received by a health care provider or health plan that relates to the past, present, or future physical or mental health condition of an individual; and payment for the health care to an individual.
Home Health	Home health is an array of services provided directly in the home under medical and nursing direction and supervision to individuals who are disabled or ill.
Hospice	Hospice is a special kind of care that provides supportive care for patients who are terminally ill, their families and caregivers. Hospice care may take place in the patient's home or in a homelike facility.
Hospitalist/Adult	An adult hospitalist is an internal medicine physician who specializes in providing care to adult patients while they are hospitalized, and work closely with the patient's primary physician.
Hospitalist/Pediatric	Pediatric hospitalists are pediatricians who provide care to children in many hospital areas, including the pediatric ward, labor and delivery, the newborn nursery, the emergency department, neonatal intensive care unit, and the pediatric intensive care unit. They work closely with a patient's primary physician.
Infectious Disease	Infectious disease is a disease caused by contact with bacteria, viruses, parasites, and/or fungi. These diseases can be spread directly or indirectly from one person to another. Some diseases that infectious disease doctors deal with include AIDS, malaria, meningitis, tetanus, and tropical or travel-related diseases.
Inpatient and Outpatient Hospital	An inpatient hospital is a facility staffed by medical professionals who provide a wide range of care (diagnosis, treatment, surgery, etc.) that requires an overnight stay ranging from short term (one or two nights) to longer term stays (multiple days). An outpatient hospital is a facility staffed by medical professionals that primarily provides diagnosis, treatment, and surgeries which do not require an overnight stay (unless there are complications which may necessitate a transfer to an inpatient hospital). Outpatient surgery is best suited for healthy people undergoing minor procedures.
Inpatient Rehab	Inpatient Rehab is a rehabilitation service offered to people who have suffered from a disease or injury that focuses on maximising their ability to function in every day life. Patients may include those that have suffered a stroke, surgery, brain injury, or spinal cord injury. Rehabilitation programs can be offered in a variety of settings. These programs help patients with physical or psychological needs through various sessions with trained and specialized doctors.
Integrative Medicine	Integrative medicine is a new approach to medical care that is guided by a partnership between the patient, doctor and team of clinical experts to create plans for the patient's life span to better support the patient and reach health goals for prevention and treatment of health problems. This approach focuses on the whole person, recognizing the interactions of the mind, body, spirit and the community of the patient for a better overall well-being.
Internal Medicine	Internal medicine is the medical specialty that deals with the diagnosis, management and non-surgical treatment of diseases and disorders.
Interventional Cardiologist	This is a cardiologist who has also received training in the use of catheter-based treatments to diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease and other problems. Much of their work is done in the cath lab, performing invasive procedures such as angioplasty, which opens blocked arteries and restores blood flow, and stenting, which is the insertion of a tube-like device in arteries to help sustain a clear pathway in previously blocked arteries. They also treat heart valve disease and peripheral artery disease.
Maternal Fetal Medicine	Maternal fetal medicine is the branch of obstetrics that focuses on the medical and surgical management of high-risk pregnancies. An obstetrician is the physician who practices this medical field and is sometimes known as a perinatologist. They help with fetal surgery or treatment, comprehensive ultrasounds and prenatal tests to detect birth defects at an early stage of pregnancy.
Medical Oncology	Oncology is an area of medicine that is devoted to the study and diagnosis of cancer. Oncologists are the physicians who study, diagnose, and treat cancerous tumors in hospitals, medical centers, university hospitals and research organizations. Some oncologists specialize in a specific area of cancer study and treatment.
Neurology	Neurology is a specific medical specialty that deals with the nervous system. Neurologists are doctors specialized in this area and work to diagnose and treat disorders dealing with the brain and nervous system.
Neuropsychology	Neuropsychology is the basic scientific discipline that studies the structure and function of the brain related to specific psychological processes and behaviors. In practice, neuropsychologists tend to work in clinical research, and examine and treat patients who have suffered illness or injury to the brain.
Neurosurgery	Neurosurgery is a type of surgery focused on treating the central nervous system and spinal cord diseases. Neurosurgeons are doctors that specialize in this field who perform surgeries that deal with diseases in the central nervous system, such as: brain tumors, spinal cord trauma, various head trauma, strokes, and much more.
OB/GYN	OB/GYN stands for obstetrics and gynecology. This includes preventive care, prenatal care, detection of sexually transmitted diseases, Pap test screening, and family planning.

Occupational Medicine	Occupational Medicine is a medical specialty devoted to the prevention and management of workplace injury, illness and disability; as well as the promotion of the health of workers, their families, and their communities. Outpatient occupational therapists specialize in the treatment of elbow, wrist and hand injuries, provide specialized splinting following reconstructive surgery and focus on restoring function, following injuries and surgery. They also specialize in early intervention and job site services aimed at maximizing the work performance and abilities of people of all ages.
Oncology	Oncology is an area of medicine that is devoted to the study and diagnosis of cancer. Oncologists are the physicians who study, diagnose, and treat cancerous tumors in hospitals, medical centers, university hospitals and research organizations. Some oncologists specialize in a specific area of cancer study and treatment.
Ophthalmology	Ophthalmology is the study of medicine concerned with the eyes and its diseases. Ophthalmologists are medical doctors who specialize in the medical and surgical care of the eyes and visual system, as well as the prevention of eye disease and injury.
Optometry	Optometry is the art and science of vision and eye care. Doctors of optometry are primary health care professionals, or optometrists. These doctors examine, diagnose, treat, and manage diseases, injuries, and disorders of the eye. They also prescribe glasses, contact lenses, and other low vision aids.
Orthopedics	Orthopedics is the study of medicine that focuses on injuries and diseases of the bones and associated muscles and joints. Orthopedic surgeons help treat patients with these type of injuries with the help of medical aids and surgical procedures.
Otolaryngology	Otolaryngology is a medical and surgical specialty that deals with the diagnosis, management, and treatment of diseases and disorders of the ear, nose, throat, and related structures of the head and neck. A patient would see a peripheral cardiologist to determine the presence of peripheral artery disease and to receive treatment via catheter-based techniques to restore blood flow to areas of the body blocked by the build up of plaque, or atherosclerosis.

They lead their clients through a customized exercise plan that assists in accelerating endurance, stamina, strength, balance, goals.
Physiatry	Physiatry is a branch of medicine that deals with restoring function for a person who has been disabled as a result of a disease, disorder or injury. Physiatrists are the physicians responsible for coordinating the rehabilitative needs of the patient to promote a better overall outcome. They treat people with physical disabilities resulting from a variety of conditions such as sports trauma, head injury, spinal cord injury or stroke.
Physical Therapy	Physical therapy is a type of therapy that helps treat injuries and disabilities through various methods that may include exercise, manual (hands-on) techniques, education and modalities that may include heat, cold, electricity or laser. Physical therapists work with patients to design programs to address the specific needs for the patient. Physical therapists specialize in the treatment of neck and back pain using spinal manipulation and exercise, lymphedema, vestibular disorders and women's health conditions, to name a few.
Podiatry	Podiatry is the branch of medicine that deals with the study and treatment of feet. Podiatrists are doctors who specialize in the study, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the feet, ankle and toes.
Primary Care	Primary care are family medicine physicians, pediatricians and internal medicine physicians that focus on prevention, acute and chornic care and comprehensive care for individuals and their families.
Psychiatry	Psychiatry is the branch of medicine that deals with the study and treatment of mental and emotional disorders. Psychiatrists are doctors who can prescribe drugs to patients for mental health issues such as anxiety, bipolar disorder, dementia, depression, schizophrenia, and substance abuse.
Psychology	Psychology is the science and study of the human mind and behavior. Psychologists are experts in this field and can help understand the role of mental functions in individuals and social behavior while exploring various processes of the mind.
Psychotherapy	Psychotherapy is therapy dealing with the emotional or psychological aspects of a problem by using a variety of communication techniques through counseling with a qualified practitioner.

Vascular	Vascular is the field of medicine that deals with the circulatory system of blood vessels and conditions of the circulatory system that need immediate attention.
Walk-In Clinic	Walk-In clinics are health-care clinics that can be located in hospitals, retail stores, supermarkets, and pharmacies that treat uncomplicated minor illnesses and provide preventive health care services.
